by the way its a Petium III running at 450 Megs..........with a 10 gig hard drive and 128 megs of RAM. any suggestions would be helpfull Thanks Neal |

Adding more memory is always good, but it won't help with low System Resources. How many processes do you have running at the same time? Check in the msconfig startup list (Start > Run > msconfig) to see if there are any programs running in the background you can do without... things like Quicktime, Adobe Reader, MSN, MS Office Startup, etc.
Not sure what you mean by connection speed... connection to the internet?

128MB is barely enough for XP. I know that MS states that 128MB is the minimum requirement for XP but Microsoft's requirements are a little underrated. I would definitly bump up the memory, at least to 512MB.
Another side note, A 450MHz processor is also a little underpowered for XP as also your HDD, which probably has a transfer rate of 33MB/sec compared to newer systems at 100MB/sec. Overall, you might want to consider a system upgrade. |

Like the other poster said, get rid of any startup items you don't need. During Win installation they add everything and the kitchen sink. :-) Get a program like Easy Cleaner, it makes it easy to see what's starting up. CleanUp is another good one. Last edited by crazijoe; 03-13-2006 at 07:35 AM. |
