Help with Norton Ghost

Hi. I don't understand all the terminology that is involved in backups. This is my first computer and when I reformat the harddrive I noticed that it says Norton Ghost v7.0 so I went and got Norton Ghost 7.0. The install disks that came with my computer were 2 CD's and you put one in and install it and then it asks for the 2nd disk and then it is completed and you have a new hard drive. I wanted to make my own disks but I wanted to add a few important programs to it like a firewall and other stuff which my original install disks don't have. I imagine since I want a few other things like firewall and extra programs that it might take 3 Cd's. Is this possible to do with Norton Ghost 2003 ? I read through the Manual and I don't understand any of it. I don't know what an image clone is or what imaging is. I just want to make backup disks so I can do a clean install of all of my programs and Windows. I only have one drive and that is the C drive and I have the D drive which is my CD burning drive. I'm using Windows XP. Can someone help me with which option it is? Thanks.

Well, I hate Norton Ghost. A lot of people recommended it but I can't even understand it. I want to do something simple like backup my hard drive onto 3 CD's so I can restore it but I don't see the option for that.

Norton

You should have an option in tools to go to "backup disk" and then you should be able to select CD-RW as an option. I would put the computer in the state that you want to save, and then do a "backup disk" and it will span the volumes of the disk. You will then need the Ghost program to restore.

To expand a little.
You will need to make the boot floppy from within ghost.
You will need it to boot to ghost when you want to reinstall the image.
When you are ready to make the image, run norton ghost,
from the menu,choose local/disk/to image.
It will start and give you a choice of source drives.
Choose your hard drive.
Next step will be destination drive.
Choose the burner.
Continue the imaging.

To restore the image, choose local/image/to disk,
and do the steps in the opposite order.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm understanding why people recommended it now. I don't think they were recommending the home version. They were recommending the Professional Edition. There is a MAJOR difference between those two versions. The professional version is one fine piece of software but the home version is just crap if you ask me. I'm using the professional version now. I think I should be able to figure it out now. Thanks.
