Trouble installing XP on 160GB ATA/100 Seagate HD
When I try to install XP on my new Seagate HD, I can go through the first stage of the installation with no problem (The stage with the blue screens). Then when it restarts to install the XP OS files, it goes back to the blue screens and starts all over as if I didn't go through that stage. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Tell us exactly what setup you have. For example, list it as follows: IDE #1...................Slave...............................Master List........................kind/make of drive............kind/make of drive jumpers.................how set...........................how set Do exactly the same for IDE #2 Post back.

Hi,
I am assuming now that there are NO OTHER drives of any kind on this ribbon cable, except your hard drive, is that correct??? Where is it located on the ribbon cable??? You should have it set to master and be on the END of the ribbon cable with the center connector not being used.

if you have 2 ram sticks - take 1 out
if you have any add-ons including an ethernet or modem pci card, take them out. try the install with a barebones system you might need to relax the timing on the ram stick in your bios...take it off of spd and choose auto ..or user define ..and loosen the timings until xp is installed. post back |
