Hey
I am just building a new computer, but i'm worried about moving my harddrives over (i dont want to lose the stuff on my secondary drive). The secondary drive is a 250GB western digital So after I install windows on the primary, I assume I would install the cd that came with the drive (data lifegaurd tools) and then install the secondary drive, so that windows can recognize it and work happily without losing anything? This new computer consists of an EVGA nforce4 motherboard. Do newer motherboards like this still have the 137GB limit or has that been fixed with newer BIOSes? Thanks for any input/help!!!! Michael |

there are two distinct drive size limits / usually speaking the 127 gig drive size limit is a bios imposed limit (your system is new so you should not have that problem >>>>>)
the 137gig drive barrier is an Operating system barrier (Windows) this barrier is overcome by the installation of Service Pack 2 prior to install of the big drive >>>> as long as you have SP-2 installed prior to install of the big drive I see no problem in your future ?????? hopefully the 250 gig drive doesnt have an OS installed on it ?????? make sure you set it to slave drive if there is !!!! regards joe

WinXP without any service packs will not support 48 bit LBA. You will need to slipstream SP2 into your XP installation CD.

Or use Autostreamer for the painless slipstream process.
