Question New HDD will not boot but I have access to drive info!!

I've installed a Maxtor 250gb Sata HDD in Sata#1. (Second HDD) Primary is 37.5gb ide Pata

I did partition and format ahead of time. 2 partitions F(200gb) and G (33gb) using my disk mgmt and there status was healthy those where my only drive letter choices.

I used xxclone(30day freeware version) to copy the old hdd (37.5gb ide Pata), contents winXP and all software files and folders to create a new bootable drive.

I ran the xxclone program everything went ok?

I changed the BIOS boot order to make the Maxtor to be the first boot dirve.

The computer boots to the old drive and not the new one.

I have access to the F and G drive.

I disconnectted the old HDD cable and the computer asks me to insert os disk in the cd. I have an HP system with brand OEM winxp no disk was provided

What do I do to get the sata drive to boot?

while doing the XXCLONE "thing" did you enter the "advanced button" found on the main console of that utility >>>> in the advanced there are three bootable options boxes which must be checked marked ???????

if you dont envoke those three boxes the drive wont boot >>>> it will be a neutered clone LOL

let us know

I'll try to reclone, that "neutered clone" thing sounds painful.

Smile It now works !!!!

I'm now using my new hdd the reclone worked!! It booted fine.
I did have to uninstall and reinstall some "Sony" programs and do a reinstall of Office for Windows but everything else seems to be working.
No winXP reactivation was asked for.
I did have to reregister norton but that about did it!!
Thank you very much I'm no longer neutered!!

Dfields:

happy to hear you are up and running / I suggest you reclone once a week if everything is running smooth (thats my personal back-up strategy with xxclone) but you will be able to run the incremental option the next time !!

I too run Office 2000 >>>> never had to reinstall that before >>> weird
I have run in to the reactivate norton anti virus >>> but thats a small price to pay for bullet proof back-up protection !!

enjoy & good job >>>>> un-nuetered !!
