Vern:

I am really confised by what you want to do ????? the monitor is ok after it got "yanked" out ??????? why not just replace the video card ?????

and you want to put the yanked monitor on a another computer >>>>> no problem their >>>> thats just a plug it into the "other" computer and fire away
but >>>>>> you have a hard drive question here dont you ??????

are you asking what to do with the hard drive from the other computer >>> the one with yanked and Windows ME on it ?????? if this is your question ????? then install the ME hard drive on the other computer as a SLAVE (jumper settings on drive) drive must be in the middle of the drive cable >>>>> not at the end of the cable !!

ask more questions if I didnt hit the bulleye (your question or problem) I am firing into the dark; but I have alot of bullets :)

regards

joe

thanx for the quick response! sry if i confused u. the moniter connector that goes to the motherboard is loose so the mon.does not work,I just thought i could put the hdd into the compaq that has no hdd in it! but i did not think of adding a cheap vidio card to solve this problem. would it not be worth the time to exchange the hard drive. thanx again, Vern

your operating system on the drive wont work with the different motherboard...unless you format the drive and reinstall the motherboard drivers and the op system

Whodat is 100% correct

the different hardware from one computer to the other will make the OS bug out

take the video card out of the compaq and put it in the other computer ?????

or get ready to reinstall windows once you move the hard drive >>>> you will most likely lose all present data ????

regards

joe

actually we stand corrected :( I am now pouting

you wont have to do anything special >>>> apparantely windows 98 and windows ME can handle the differences in the change on their own

weird Windows XP and Windows 2000 CANT !!

http://motherboard.windowsreinstall.com/win98me.htm

so in summary: just put the windows ME hard drive in the compaq machine and boot up >>>>> provided you dont run into the good ole proprietary compaq problems >>> Compaq used to put boot code on its hard drives >>> when the compaq bios used to boot up >>>> the bios would examine all the hardware first looking to be sure it all came from Compaq >>>> if it found a stanger it wont boot ????? dotn know if you model will do that >>>> but if it refuses to boot you will know why ?????

good luck

joe
