Roll Eyes "Error loading OS" on new SATA drive

Gday guys,

I'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition SP1 to SATA and having issues due to "Error loading OS" post-initial setup phase.

***Problem***
Setup recognises the HDD when using manufacturer supplied drivers.Created a partition of 10GB and formatted it, setup copied install files to drive and rebooted:

1. CDROM BOOT: Setup loop; Partition creation/Format, Copying of installation files, reboot.
2. HDD BOOT: "Error loading OS".

***Specs***
Motherboard: MSI KT6 Delta (MS-6590 VER 2)
HDD: Maxtor Diamondview Plus 9 (SATA) 80GB

***Attempted solutions***
1. Tried a smaller 4GB partition with no benefits.
2. BIOS recognises the HDD under boot order.
3. Tried setting HDD to first in order, and also setting CD-Rom to first in order.
4. Tried switching SATA channel.
5. Updated BIOS through MSI website.
6. Pressed F6 and loaded manufacturer drivers a) provided with system and b) downloaded from MSI site.

Please assist. My thanks in advance.

Hello Dai. It turns out that my friend's computer had 3 ram sticks of 256,256, and 1GB DDR400 RAM. The 1GB stick is labelled "DDR-M", although I'm not familiar with the extension and whether or not it means anything.

I tried following your suggestion and removing two sticks and the problem was resolved. Windows XP Home installed without a hitch.

This case is closed. Thanks Dai!
