PC only boots to BIOS
Hi all
My pc will not load into windows any longer, and it also will not load to a DOS prompt, but I can however get it to boot into the BIOS. I was just wondering if this is harddrive related or if possibly it is just that i need to reload windows. Please help!! Thank you all for you time! |

Most BIOS have a key stroke that let's you in (delete or F2 on some). You should see if your BIOS detects your hard drive.

hello
it could be either your hard drive or power supply i just had a situation where i ran western digital's utility that show 0 errors on a 160gig drive. going into bios, sometimes it would show the drive, then root around bios a bit, go back to the general tab, and the drive was gone. back and forth outcome- bad power supply |

just like the other post said, see if your bios detects the hdd. if it doesnt try swapping out another ide cable or sata cable.
another thing you can do is to download the diagnostics utility from the manufacturer's website of your hdd and bootup with it. follow the onscreen instructions and then test your hdd for any errors. what operating system are you running? if you are running windows xp and if your bios detects your hdd, bootup with the windows xp cd. then on the first screen where it ask you to install or repair windows, choose repair. then it will take you to a black screen and ask you to choose your language. afterwards another screen will show where it look something like 1:C>windows. press and choose 1. the computer will ask you for an admin password but simply hit enter to skip the process. then on C: type in "chkdsk /r" without the "". it should take some time and after this repair process is over, also type in "fixboot" also without the "". repairing the master boot record should only take a second and then reboot the computer by typing in "exit". afterwards see if you can boot into windows normally. good luck |
