120 Gig GONE?
Hello all, I have a 120GIG Western Digital 1200JD i think thats it im at work now. Well the problem is this, my friend was going to reformat his computer, So I brought over my 120 so he can move some files on to it...he did that and it worked fine. Now after he disconnected the HD and reformatted windows refuses to see the hard drive. I can hear it spin and the setup is exactly the same with jumpers and cables. I took it back home to try and see it I used some WD utility and it says it needs to be formatted...Is their anyway to recover this lost data, aside from spending 1000$ at a data recovery company? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes there is.
As long as the Bios can see the HDD Go and get a copy of Linox such as Knoppix as it doesn't require a HDD to boot If this boots on the system then it will still see the partition if any exists and allow you to move files accross the network if set up. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html this link will allow you to download for free I use this to retrieve customers data and charge 1/4 the price of the big boys! Good luck. EMail me for anything more on the issue Regards Golith

Autodetect the hard drive in BIOS.
If it's been formatted, all the data and Windows will have been deleted, so the best way to recover data from this drive is to reinstall Windows then run PC Inspector File Recovery http://www.pcinspector.de/download.a...#file_recovery EDIT: ....or do what Golith says
