write protect error writing drive C

Hi,

I have a 5 years old AMD athlon running windows 98 second edition and windows 2000. For the last couple of days when I tried to start windows 98 (most of the software my daughter uses run under 98) I get the following error:
write protect error writing drive c

if I hit fail a couple of times it keeps going but I get the feeling that I need to sort the problem anyway.

COuld anyone help?

You might want to run a scan disk in windows to check for errors.
