Problem with new hard drive

The hard drive on my IBM Netvista PC gave in so I've purchased a new hard drive to replace it. Have fitted the drive, a maxtor (6yo8olo yar41bwo) and restarted tje pc with a IBM product recover CD. This allowed my to access the IBM CMOS set up utility. Unfortunately I can't find anything in this utility to get the pc to boot from the CD and at the moment all it tells me is misisng operating system. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Maybe you should flash your bios. try here interesting how you dont have the boot sequence/order in your bios. FIRST check if you can you see your cd rom in the bios ? Did you use the right ide cable and a different channel for your HD ? Is the HD and cd rom on the same cable ? I would use different channels and check the jumpers also.
