External Firewire HDD wont show up - Win XP
Hey all, I plug in my external Fantom HDD to my windows XP computer and I heard the beep as if its recognized, but thats all it does. No drive shows up in My Computer or anything in the Device Manager. I am running 3 other external firewire drives and they all seem to work fine. THe other 3 drives are all Western Digital and Maxtor. This HDD originally came from a mac (im grabbing some files off of it for a friend) so not sure if that makes a difference since it is formatted for Mac and all.

Check Device Manager and see if it's recognized. Also, check Disk Management and see what it has to say about the drive. I suspect it's being recognized as either unformatted or a foreign format.

Windows is stupid and usually won't recognize MacOS formatted media. MacOS, however, can read and write to Windows file systems.
