Nothing is solving my 127 GB barrier problem
Ahoy-
After much failure, I have concluded that I need some help. =) I just bought a 250 GB Maxtor 6L250R0 HDD, which is now the only hard disk my computer has. So I installed Windows (XP Pro) and the like, along with SP2, and my drive was showing as 127 GB total size. So what I did was updated the drivers for everything inside my computer, including this BIOS update (Intel D865PERL is my motherboard). Still, the drive showed as 127 GB. Maxtor's solution was to run their "Big Drive Enabler" update, but that also did nothing: Windows still sees it as 127 GB, but I looked in the BIOS, and it shows it as 250 GB. I really don't want to partition my drive at all. If there is a way of solving this without going that route, I'd be extremely thankful for any help doing so. Thank you, Daniel |

If you had slipstreamed XP2 BEFORE you installed XP, it would have been able to see the whole drive. The options now are to use something like Partition Magic to resize it now that SP2 is installed.
FWIW, I think you are actually making a mistake having one huge partition. I normally have a reasonable sized boot partition, a data partition, and then the rest as archives. You can use an image utility to image the boot partition so that in the event of a total crash, you can be back up in minutes. Also, having your data separate makes it much easier to back that up, say to CD or DVD. Data that is not backed up is data just begging to be lost.
