HDD not recognized

Hello, i am a complete noob so you guys have to explain it to me. I just recently bought a new samsung sp1614c hard drive but i didnt notice that it was SATA. i found an extra power cable and the other cable to connect it to my SATA1 slot on my motherboard, which is a MSI KT6V. When i started my computer, it didnt recognize my hard drive and it says that i didnt install one. Help!

Welcome to TSF:

One very important element of the sata drive config is you must be able to see the presence of the sata controller in your device manager without a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

please check to be sure your sata contoller is available for use

regards

joe

sorry it took so long but where is the sata controller and the device manager. MY hard drive is brand new and i connected the power and the sata cable to it. when i start my computer, it displays the hard drives name as the master. i tried to install windows on it but it says theres no hard drive present to install windows on. lol im a silly noob but, is the bios screen the one that turns red when i press either F1, F2, Insert, or Delete? lol
