Running IDE and SATA together...
Hi all,
I built myself a PC about a year ago using what I believe are fairly decent components for what I'll be using it for. But now I'm running out of HDD space, and was wondering if I could run SATA drives alongside my two IDE drives. I've already got both my IDE ports taken up as I have two DVD-R's on one channel and the two HDD's on the other. Also, I don't want my new data to be split up over two drives (assuming I end up getting two at the same time if/when I do the upgrade), so I'm guessing I do NOT set up RAID, is that correct? My motherboard is a GigaByte GA8IPE1000 Pro2 (it has SATA ports onboard), and I am running two SeaGate Barracuda HDDs (a 120Gb and a 160Gb) plus the two Pioneer DVD-Rs. So, can I keep the IDE drives in and run a third (and maybe fourth) HDD alongside what I've already got, and will my 400W power supply be sufficient (it came with the Tsunami-branded case)? Thanks in advance, Nick T. |
