I bought an EIDE HD, should it run this slow?

so i look in the bestbuy add, 50$ for 120gb 8mb cache 7200 rpm...
is it too good to be true, apparently, cuz this hd writes at less then 2mb/s max (according to copying file)
my other hd is ata/133 i dont know how bad an eide is, but it runs like my old 98 8gig hd that i replaced it with. so all i can say is is their anyway to improove its performance,
its a slave drive, i could put it on a pci-ata card if that would speed it up.
it doesnt have a paging file on it, i could add one if that would speed it up.
i could possibly return it and get a 60$ 80gb one off newegg, and if it ran fast i would be thankfull...
if anyone atleast knows the speed of eide that might help me narrow down where to look... but currently my bf42 load times are less on higher settings then on lower settings, cuz it takes more time to use the hds flipping files around to get only the small mip maps loaded to my gcard then just toss it all on the 256 i got on the card...
help me...

for the pros, heres abit more info
2.4ghz p4 533
1gb ddr333
256mb gf6200
1 30gb ata/133 hd at master
1 120gb eide hd at slave <- problem

Are you certian that the 30GB drive is running at 133? If it runs any slower then all the devices on that cable will run at the slower speed. You also need to make sure you're using a 80-pin cable to get ATA100 and higher speeds.

Wink

Ebackus I believe has your problem answered / poor cables / buy a good set of 80pin ATA 133 cables.

regards

now im really confused... i though 133 was better then 100? or did i read that wrong.
anyway for choice of wires, i have the one that came with my dell, and the one that came with this hd.
i assumed the one with the dell was 133 and the one with the hd was 100, but if i have those backwards...

but ill flip them and see what happens

thanks

Actually i switched the wire and did a test with diskspeed32.
my 30gb hd is about 30mb/s each way.
my 120gb hd is about 2mb/s each way. so... i must have really screwd up somewhere along the way...
i put in the drive, i formatted it in disk management... then loaded some stuff on to it, thats about it, maybe it needs a defragment?

Take a look at DMA reverts to PIO and see if that doesn't help.
