Hard Drive Failure

I have a fujitsu 40 gig HD which i think has failed in fact i am pretty sure it has failed, i've just hooked it up to the primary ide of another system and it's not appearing on load up.

I have taken all the other devices of the board cdroms other hard drives so its only the fujitsu.

The cables are on the right way, the jumper is set to master.

Even the hard drive test can't find it.

Any suggestions?

If you need to recover information from this drive. try this. http://www.runtime.org/

If not, it sounds like a dead drive. Time for a new one.

Heres a something i have noticed this is the 3rd hard drive i have sent back in five years to fujitsu.

2000 Feb 10 gig dead swapped over for another 10 gig
2003 Jan Replacement 10gig swapped for 20gig
2004 Aug 20 gig dead replaced with 40gig
2005 april 40 gig presumed dead now looking for another replacement

Theres a pattern there they keep getting bigger, i know they keep breaking i gotta get my moneys worth.

(Don't buy Fujitsu)

I don't need to recover data.

I really need to make sure it's dead before i send it back.

Sounds like you have tried everything. If it does not show up in cmos and the manufactors program can not test it, time to send it back.

LOL @Linderman...........

"Is Fuji owned by Maxtor ????????"

r u looking for the easy answer there?

Jonno: sounds like it is as dead as a dodo but have you tried adding the disk to another as a slave to see if it can be read that way? (remember to change the jumpers!).

Try the Disk utilites here: http://www.fel.fujitsu.com/home/drivers.asp?L=en
or better still, the FJ-IDE Drive Initializer Utility on the same page.

Also, if it isn't seen in Bios at all it could be your mobo or the controller - do other drives detect & work ok?
