Internal 2000gig ide hd not usable
okey heres the scoop i had a dual hd system all of a suddun my master(boot) hd dies kaput bad disk cant scan disk cant use diagnostic utilies gone okay i can live with that. my documents were on my 200 gig slave drive(safe i think) so i replace the 20 gig master with a 30 gig master from ibm and install windows on it , all good. but when i open up my computer only one drive there the 30 gig. I open up computer managment and the hd is there but w/ no drive letter, okay ill just assign one, or not, the only option givin to me is to delete the partion. This i really would not like to do as i have over 100 gigs of very inportant docs on it. If i have to okay i will.
This is what i have tried so far. Changing jumper settings from master to slave to cable select in all possible configurations. no luck. cant run any type of windows diags on it as it doesnt have a drive letter. if i try to install windows on it it says that the partion is bad and i have to delete it (again not to happy bout that) and it is actually givin a designation 'c' when i boot from the xp cd. both drives are ntfs file system. the hd is also a western digital |
