External USB 2 hard drive problems
Hello. I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard but the problems I am having is with an external USB 2 case and 80 gig hard drive. I actually got the case from Mad Dog MM which originally had a 52 CDRW and has the 80 pin IDE. Basically it works fine; but when I am burning a DVD from a captured home videos using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, for some reason, the external USB 2 hard creates errors in my burn. This is in fact what is happening because when I remove the external Hard drive, it burns fine. There are other oddities as well: I cannot shut down and restarts, as well when the external Hard drive is connected. I am wondering if this is behavior that can occur when external USB2 hard drives are connected. Someone else was telling me that their external USB2 hard drive designed for a hard drive, would never shut off when the computer was shut down. He could still hear it humming which is odd since it did not have a fan with it. It was one of those aluminum cases. I was actually hoping to use it for storing my videos. Although, I can use it to store videos but just cannot burn from it, since it causes problems just sitting there. Any common experiences would be interesting.

I use USB 2.0 drives on a number of systems here, and I don't see anything like you're describing, it's not normal.
The problem with the drive not powering down when you shutoff the system is not a problem, since it has it's own power switch and P/S. That's normal operation, you have to turn it off.
