SATA and IDE HDD combined
Pieced together new system with Intel P4 3.2, gigabyte MB, Wind XP, etc, etc. Have new Maxtor 200gig HD, wanted to recycle two IDE 120 gig West Dig HDDs. Used converters with MB to go from IDE HDDs to SATA inputs. MB only recognized the SATA HDD, no matter what combo of bios settings I try? Even unplugged the DVD and CD burners to free up the only IDE port, and still would not recognize either of the drives. Thoughts?

Hello and welcome to TSF.
What model is your MB? Some MBs will have an independent SATA controller that is separate from the southbridge chipset of the MB. This controller is not handle by the MB BIOS and is handle by it's own BIOS. You may need to enable the separate controller. |

I have the same problem, and now my SATA HDD went out. My mobo won't recognize the IDE HDD to boot. I only have one IDE cable slot on the mobo. I also tried freeing up disc drives to accomidate the hard drive alone.

You probably need to change the BIOS settings for it to boot from the IDE drive.
