***Disk Read Error Occurred***

I was using my pc as usual and then it locked up. I restarted and got the "Disk Read Error Occurred message on boot". HDD no longer boots. I tried booting form CDROM but the screen goes blank and it doesn't boot. I'm running win. XP and a SATA HDD. No jumpers and the pc knows the HDD is the master. All components have always run fine, never a problem. Now it's like my HDD went out. Can anyone give me even a suggestion on where to start?

Custome PC:
Windows XP Pro
Albatron PX915P4C mobo
P4 3.2Ghz 478
1Gb Kingston pc3200 RAM
Samsung SATA 120Gb HDD - model SP121C

My System

Send a message via MSN to linderman
i would start with running memtest86 (memtest86.com) that runs in DOS before windows boots

a memory error will also shut you down

can you test the drive in another sata capable system ????

do you have a spare IDE drive you could check all other aspects of the machine with?????

I recently (last week) installed another 512mb RAM of same kind and compatible type in my pc. Everything was perfectly operational until now. I've tried removing the RAM upgrade and it didn't help. I have no other pcs in the house that have SATA :( I'll try memtest. All other IDEs don't work (with this system). For some reason the mobo can't detect them as a bootable device, or master of any kind.

If the drive shows in the BIOS, I would download the drive manufacturers disk utility and run a diagnostics against the drive.
