Partition Drive is Corrupted!!
I have a Maxtor 5000 DV external 160gb drive which I have partioned in 2 drives ( 1 primary F and 1 logical H). Both partions are NTSF. The logical partition (H Drive) was created 2 months ago using "partition Magic 8.0", I keep all my music in the H partition and backup data in F partition drive. Yesterday the H Drive became unaccessible for no reason. This has been working fine everyday since H was created. I get an error saying : Disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. While the F drive is totally fine and accessible. I tried to run CHKDSK on the corrupted drive and get the following error: " Canno't run CHKDSK, Corrupt master file table.
How can I recover from this error? My computer shows the H drive on the list but empty (o bytes) but shows as full in partition magic drive mapper. I really need to recover the music data, I have no backup. Do I need to use data recovery software or utilities you can recommend? i am a novice at this. It could be that my H drive is full and became corrupted but I have never moved or dropped the maxtor drive. I would like to send you a graphic of the way I have partioned my drives but dont really know how to insert this here. I am using a VAIO desktop 1.7ghz CPU Windows XP Home, SP2 updated Maxtor Drive is connected via USB 2.0 Please let me know if you need more info and I thank you in advance for your help and advice. |

Your data is probably still intact on the drive, you may just have an issue with the MBR on the drive. You might check your Partition Magic software application for a utility to handle the problem. You might also find the following link useful. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q69013/
