two HD's crashing??????
I'm having a problem with two HD's. Computer was working great untill the next morning. Woke up, turned computer on and heard a loud ticking noise. After that...... nothing. Would not start up in anyway. So, I assume that the HD crashed.
I then connect my external HD (completely different drive) that was hooked up to the desktop and connect it to my laptop..... it is no longer recognized and is making a ticking noise as well. Can anyone shed some light for me on what could the problem could be..... I am thinking one of two things. A power surge or a virus. Thanks in advance for your comments -evin |

Well, the "ticking" sound we like to call the Click of Death, it's never a good sign! You must live under a dark cloud to have two fail the same way at the same time!
I suggest you download the disk manufacturer's diagnostic and try running it against the drives, see what it turns up. I don't have high hopes if you're getting the slow "kerchunk...kerchunk...kerchunk" sound...

whewww...... I thought it was horrible to be true. It seems that my external USB drive was preventing my computer from booting. So after disconnecting the external, it booted fine. I guess the ticking (and now grinding) noise was the external.
Just thought I'd follow up thanks -kevin |

Thanks for the feedback. Well, you're only unlucky, not REAL unlucky.
