External Hard Drive Problems

I have an 80GB external hard drive on my computer, the computer recognizes it, but it wont assign it a letter and allow me to access it in my computer. also it doesnt have any error messages, anyone have any suggestions

i have replied to your other thread and will request the other one be deleted as it is a double post in two seperate threads.

my response was thus:

the answer: remove the Hard Drive from the enclosure and look at the label and see what the setting for the Master would be. and be sure that you place the Master Setting on the correct pins so you, will have to look at the label and see how the image is shown and look at the connectiosn for the HDD then jumper as required, and install HDD again. and try it out. best to reboot first

It appears that you may just have to go to Disk Management and partition and format the drive.

Right click on My Computer, Manage, Disk Management. You should find the drive there listed as "Unallocated". Right click on the drive graphic and partition and format it.
