poweredge 4300 raid failiure
recently i accuired a power edge 4300 server but it wont boot from the scsi raid (5) array
i think the controler is knacered does any of you guys have a solution to recover the data can i just change the controller to one that works and just rebuild the array or would that make it corrupt and unrecoverable i also cant get the funds to send it off to a lab its a bit of an old workhorse but it has a lot of data on it which needs to be kept; all backups have been lost through passage of time along with all software and manuals for the machine bit of a nightmare scenario i know |

The only way you could move the array would be to find another computer with the same controller. I believe the 4300 uses either the PERC 2/SC or the PERC 3/SC. Not all 4300 will use the same controller. After you move the drive to the other computer or change the controller, you will have to go into the PERC controller BIOS and activate the array. There's no guaranty that you will be able to recover the array.
