External hard drive question - fans running
Yesterday I purchased an EZ Bus 40 Gb external portable hard drive for backups of my files. Hooked it up and everything works fine and dandy, but I find that my case fans are running a lot more since the install. I'm sure it's nothing too worrisome, but was wondering just why this might be the case?
The specs on the external are here.... http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16822161107 My comp is an HP a510n, AMD XP 3000 2.1Ghz, 1 Gig RAM... I'm wondering if this might be because I hooked up the little drive with the AC Adapter to USB connection, rather than the AC to PS/2 connection. Or would that make a negligible difference? Any insight or info is appreciated...many thanks!

I can't even begin to imagine how a USB drive could have any effect on the operation of the case fans.
![]() My guess is this is just a coincidence, and the method of connection shouldn't be an issue either. The maximum power that drive would draw connected by either method would be 5 watts, hardly a blip on the radar of the system.
