Raid 1 setup question

I currently have Win XP and lots of data on a WD 120GB IDE HD. I just purchased another WD hard drive of the same size. My question is can I setup a RAID 1 (mirror) using the two drives without reinstalling windows XP and if so how?

The motherboard is an ASUS P4P800-E deluxe and is equipped with a Promise Fasttrack Raid controller.

If you install the RAID controller drivers in the current configuration, you could make an image of the system with something like Acronis True Image, configure the RAID array, then dump the image back to the RAID array. That's how I have configured a couple of RAID-0 systems. Of course, this assumes you have a 3rd disk of some sort, but then you do want backup, right? I suggest a USB drive, very handy and reliable backup.

If you are going to put you O/S ( as it sounds like you are) on the array , I would suggest looking at the intel controller as it run independent of your PCI bus and will run at a higher through put.

If you have a standard PCI bus computer, where do you connect this Intel RAID controller?

The P4P800-E Deluxe has the intel controller and the promise. The intel controller is run from sata 1 and 2 were as the promise is run from the sata raid 1 and 2.

If your board don't come with the intel well you just have to suffer,

Hmm... I'll have to look closer at my ABIT board, it also has the Intel RAID, and I'm currently using the SIIG channels.
