HDD Not Detected
Hi guys,
Recently I just bought a Western Digital IDE HDD to replace an old IDE HDD. I was planning to install Windows XP from scratch onto the disk, but once I connected it the new HDD couldn't be found. When I first set up the computer I was forced to use the red RAID IDE slot (I think that's what it is) instead of the standard IDE slot, because the IDE cable would only reach to the CD Drive or the HDD even though it had 2 connectors. However I can't remember how I got the computer to find the HDD the first time I did it. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Re: HDD Not Detected
What is the make and model of the hard drive? Make sure the jumpers to select master slave are set correctly. Western Digital drives have two master positions If it is the only device on the cable - no jumper. If two devices then the appropriate master or slave jumper. Jumper positions are usually on the label, or you can google the model number for the maual which will show the jumpers.

Re: HDD Not Detected
The HDD is:
Western Digital 250gb PATA / 8MB Cache WD2500AAJB - 00J3A0 The Motherboard is: ASUS P5GDC-V When I hit DEL to enter the setup, I can see the HDD listed in the boot device priority, but not in the boot list. Only the DVD drive shows up. I removed the jumper cable as the HDD is the only device on this cable and it still didn't work. And still when I try to install windows it tells me that it cannot detect a HDD. Thanks for the help.

Re: HDD Not Detected
On the 'Main' BIOS page where it lists Primary IDE Master etc, only the DVD drive shows up on that list. But if I go across to the 'Boot' page, the HDD is listed as 2nd Boot Device.
