New hard drive

I installed new Seagate barracuda 500 GB hard drive on Gateway desktop 838 GM computer. The old hard drive crashed. This computer came up only with one recovery system CD Media center, so i boot it up from the CD. Everything went ok exept it didn't let me partition the hard drive. It didn't offer it in the installation process. Partition was not included with the disc wizard from Seagate either. My question is can I partition the drive now with F DISK and repeat the recovery system again and have at least 2 partition on the hard drive with this recovery system CD?

Re: New hard drive

Hi,
You can repartition the drive, but I would not use F-Disk.
If you have the OS installed already, try a free partitioning tool like EASEUS:
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Tutatorial here:
http://www.partition-tool.com/easeus...-partition.htm

In your case you want to use CASE 3 to decrease the size of your C: drive
Note: the example on the tutatorial is D:

Re: New hard drive

Thank you guys for your quick answer, I will for sure try EASEUS, the reason why i wanted do F-DISK was, i could not install service pack3 (I got service pack2), I thought it went something wrong when I used the recovery CD. Now I have service pack3 on CD because i didn't want to disable antivirus, but I still didn't try to install pack3. After I used the recovery disc, first i downloaded Spy-Doctor and somehow got annoying " ad.yieldmanager.com popup" and can't get rid off it yet. But anyhow I appreciate your help and will let you know how i did.
Thanks a lot Mir2

Re: New hard drive

Hi,
If you are going to do another reinstall then install the OS first.
Install ALL the nessary drivers you need.
Install SP3
Install your Anti-virus and Malware protection

With EASEUS you can change the partition size at anytime.

Re: New hard drive

Hi,
Whats is the exact issue with SP3?
Do you get error messages during the install?
Have you done a Microsoft Update?

Try the link simpswr posted.
