Hard Drive not working due raid(I think)

Ok guys here is the problem.I have a brand new pc which has a 200gb hard drive maxtor 62b00m0. Wanting to partition the hard drive I proceeded to format first to my pearle as now I cannot get into hard drive at all. When I hit tab at start up it tells me I have not enough drives for raid, When I boot up as normal it tells me I have a missing operating system and when i try to install windows xp ....nothing. Any help at all you can give me on this will be greatly appreciated as I seem to be getting nowhere fast!!!!!! I am operating on XP with a 3gb AMD Athlon 64 and 512 DDR memory.Thanking you in advance regards Morag

All righty,
Need a bit more info. What is the motherboard you are working on? Is this a SATA drive and where are you connecting the drive?

I am working on a MSI MOTHERBOARD k8tm/k8mm MS-6741(V1.X) M-ATX MAINBOARD. Regards the hard drive I believe it is SATA but I have not connected it.This is unfortunately a factory built PC and therefore has not been touched inside at all. This problem only happened when I went to format the drive so I am guessing that it is something I have done during that process. hope this helps a bit Thanks regards

What you need to do is go to the manufacturers website and see if they have drivers for the SATA controller. You will need to put them on a floppy disk. During the Windows install you will be prompted to press F6 to install SCSI or RAID drivers. Press F6 and later during the install it will ask for the drivers that you put on the floppy disk.
You should be able to create the OS partition and make it whatever size you want during the install then after Windows is done you can go into Disk Management and partition the unallocated space.
