Gently clicking Seagate 500GB laptop HD (video attached!)
I've got a new Dell with a Seagate 500GB HD inside of it. It's a very quiet drive - you can barely hear the disk during i/o. However, there is a fairly consistent soft CLICK that occurs about once every 1-5 seconds. I've recorded a video to demonstrate the sounds here. As you can hear, the sounds are not loud, but they still concern me, as none of my prior HDs did this.
I'm trying to figure out if this is likely no big deal, or if it may portend something bad for the drive. Any opinions? Last edited by The_J; 11-08-2009 at 01:54 PM. Reason: Video is attached |

Re: Gently clicking Seagate 500GB laptop HD
raptor_pa may have a better opinion, but some drives are just noisier than others. You can test the drive using SeaTools. But I wouldn't expect it to find anything wrong.
