Re: trying to identify issue...
If you cannot select using the keyboard, maybe you have usb keyboard that you need to go into cmos and enable in dos mode.
If it is not a usb keyboard, then it is possible that the ps2 keyboard may be bad. Watch when you turn your computer on and look for Press (del, f1, etc) top enter setup. Look through the screens in cmos for a keyboard mouse usb setting for dos mode. If that is the problem, you can post back once you are able to select safe mode for further help/repair info.

Re: trying to identify issue...
I had tried to swap out the keyboard with no success. It didn’t allow me to select safe mode or allow me to press f8 to enter setup. I also disconnected every external device with the exception of the keyboard to see if it would be recognized then.
Can I hook the hard drive up to my other desktop safely to see if it is alive? If not any suggestion on where i should take the hard drive to be evaluated? |

Re: trying to identify issue...
You can put the hard drive into another computer as a slave, but do not use it as the boot drive.
Can you enter your bios/cmos setup with the keyboard?

Re: trying to identify issue...
Since the computer is getting to the boot menu and you simply cannot make any selection, it's likely not a HDD. Also, since you cannot enter the BIOS, that indicates a hardware or keyboard issue. The HDD and/or OS have no affect on entering the BIOS.
