boot vs. data disk
I recently purchased an Intel SSD and installed Windows 7 on it with the intention to use it solely as a boot disk. I was wondering if there is a way to set my default data and program file disk to be my 1TB mechanical HDD., and in the process integrate my folders (i.e. programs, downloads, music, videos, etc.) into 7. Any help would be much appreciated. Once I have this fixed I will stop using my Vista partition almost entirely, as I really prefer Windows 7. Until then I am stuck dual-booting in and out.
My main reasoning behind this is that booting into Windows 7 on my SSD takes about 45 seconds, while booting into Windows Vista from my regular hard disk drive takes about 3-4 minutes before I can even access the internet. Thanks |

Re: boot vs. data disk
Win 7 also boots faster from a HDD. You can't change the "default" that I'm aware of, buy you can simply choose that HDD when you install new programs. Installing software to drives other than the C: drive has been an option with all versions of Windows.

Re: boot vs. data disk
Depending what video /music player you are using, you can remap the library path to another disk. You are not locked in to the default paths for other than system files, you can always save as in any location, and then point the app to that path to open the files. This may give you a starting point to try http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/18725/

Re: boot vs. data disk
+1 if you are using itunes click on Edit in the menu bar. then Click on Pereferences then go to Advanced tab and you should see the itunes library path location.
you can change the path to what ever you want. |
