HD wont format >> HD dead?
I think my HD is dead, at first i was running vista home premium. After a month it jst stopped working and my computer kept restarting it wouldnt load up.
So, i tried to format and install xp since i heard vista is dodgy so i thought id go back to xp. Well i usually do quick format so i quick formatted my HD after the comp reboots setup for windows wouldnt load up. only thing i could do was boot from cd again, if i take the disc out it jst goes failed to find OS. i then tried deleting the partition and FULL FORMATING, but when i try to full format the HD jst makes heaps of noise and stays at 0 percent this hd is 250gb, running quad core asus. I think its my HD thats dead or is it? i dont mind losing any data i jst wanna use my comp again |

Re: HD wont format >> HD dead?
Download the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic disk and see what it says about the drive. Failed tests = new disk, try SMART as well as short and long tests.

Re: HD wont format >> HD dead?
Is the HDD still recognized by the BIOS? If it is, you should still be able to test it using the SeaTools software. If it isn't or if SeaTools doesn't recognize it, then yes, it will need to be replaced.
