New Hard Drive with Gateway Recovery Disk

HI,

I have Gateway GM5424 and the old hard drive is fried. I bought a new hard drive WD CAviar Blue WDK3200KSRTL. I have the gateway recovery disk (ordered from gateway) and the Dat Lifeguard disk that came with the HD.

I run the recovery disk, it loads windows, reboots?, and then freezes after about 10 seconds, I'm assumin it wants to start the install, but can't do it.

I run it in safe mode when it gets to the reboo this time and it freezes at disk.sys. IT always freezes there.

The HD is shown in the Bios. I have turned off networking, have disabled sata and changed it to legacy in the HD area, etc, but nothing works.

If I powered on w/o any disk in the cd/dvd . I receive a "Missing Operating system", if that makes any difference.

I can se the HD if I hook it up externally to a differnet computer.

Any ideas?

I can post more info later.

Re: New Hard Drive with Gateway Recovery Disk

How is the disk reported in BIOS setup?

Re: New Hard Drive with Gateway Recovery Disk

Under Advanced -> Drive configuration : detected SATA Device : WDC WD32000AAKS-009LA.

I have , above that:

ATA/IDE mode: NAtive
Configure SATA as RAID: RAID
SMART: Disable

I have changed the RAID in the past to AHCI one abd IDE once. Then changed the ATA/IDE to Legacy.

I now see thta I kee p passing right over the text SATA HD info available under RAID environment (Press Ctrl-I durig post). SO I 'll take alook at that rigth now

Re: New Hard Drive with Gateway Recovery Disk

I just wanted to clarify you tried it with ATA/IDE set to legacy and the Configure Sata as set to IDE at the same time.
