The need for HD speed
What factors determine how fast data will get to the application requesting it? I know there are factors internal to the HD - are there also factors in the MB itself? I have been planning a massive database for a couple of years - storing text, ebooks, pics, video, audio, etc and all searchable. I am now close to having the time and $$ to make it real and need to update my info a bit.
Are the controller cards that are built into a MB an optimal choice for speed? or is it advisable to get a pci card? Is SATA II faster than uw scsi? |

Re: The need for HD speed
The biggest factors will be the HDD itself. Addon cards won't be any faster than the onboard controllers (assuming they are the same type). You will likely be more concerned with seek speed, as opposed to transfer speed. As searches will be the cause of slowness.
