Problems with 2.5 USB Enclosure
Hi,
My laptop died a few weeks ago, so I've since bought a new PC and a 2.5 inch IDE enclosure for the HD from my laptop. I think the disk should be okay, as it was power issues along with a lot of wear and tear that saw the end of my laptop. Anyway, I plug the enclosure into my PC, however I can't get it to work. I've tried it on 3 different machines... Two of these are running XP. On the XP machines, when I plug the enclosure in the install hardware kicks off, but it seems to hang. Don't get any drive letters. When I go to device manager, I can find the disk recognised as a hard disk, down to the name of the disk. However when I click on properties, it says there is no driver installed, which maybe because the install hardware is hanging? I try to populate the disk, however that gives me an error. Nothing showing up under disk management. On the Vista machine, it was slightly different... The install new hardware seems to complete, and it registered that there's a new hard disk plugged in. Again, no drive letters showing up. I try to populate the disk, and it again gives me an error. Again, no disk showing up under disk management... Any thoughts? Could it be the enclosure? How do I rule out that the disk is not gone? I've got a lot of valuable info on that hard disk, and would really like to get it back. Thanks |

Re: Problems with 2.5 USB Enclosure
Hi and welcome
What is the make and model of the 2.5 inch enclosure that you have? What is the make and model of the 2.5 inch drive that you have in the enclosure? Thank you very much!

Re: Problems with 2.5 USB Enclosure
Also the 2.5 inch enclosures are powered off the USB bus which has pretty limited current available. Are there any other USb devices connected?
