raid and ide

I was wondering if I can add a third drive on the master ide to a sata raid setup? I have an asus a8v-e deluxe and have a raid0 sata setup and I want to add my previous hd on the ide master channel. It already has windows installed and is partioned. Do I need to do anything special or can I just attach it and disable it in the boot sequence? I just want to use it for storage, mp3's, photo's, etc. and I don't mind reformatting if necessary but I would like to be able to transfer all the mp3's, etc. off it first.

Thanks!

SATA & IDE DON'T MIX? YET.

I have an ASUS A7N8X- Deluxe mother board that I have been torturing for the last couple of years. I recently added two Maxtor 120 GB HDDs to the system. I cannot get this board to boot to the SATA drive if there is an IDE drive connected to the primary controller. I have recently upgraded my bios to the latest version for my rev of the board. This new bios gave me the option to boot to a SATA or SCSI drive. But if there is an IDE drive hooked up it still won't boot to the SATA. If you get it to work let me know how.
Good luck.

You should be able to connect the drive with no sweat. I have a RAID-0 SATA setup, and I connect up to two drives on the primary IDE cable (drive drawers), it works fine. You will have to configure the controllers correctly in the BIOS, and the configuration hints aren't always that plain. I had to try several combinations until I could get it to boot from the SATA with a drive on the IDE channel. Mine is an ABIT board, but I think the capabilities in the BIOS should be very similar.
