WD External Hard Drive - Can't Transfer Big Files
Hi, I have a 1TB WD MyBook Essential that is now not allowing me to transfer big files sizes, such as around 6GB files +, from the drive. I am using Windows 7, and until a couple days ago was not having this problem. The drive is recognized, I can see what is stored on it, and I am still able to move files of around 1 GB - I haven't tried anything between those. Is there any to fix this, or at least 1 last time take the files of the ext hard drive for I am receiving a replacement. And no, the file format is NTFS not FAT32. Thanks in advance.

Re: WD External Hard Drive - Can't Transfer Big Files
the format of both my win 7 computer and ext hard drive are both NTFS, and I'm getting an error message, but rather the window with the progress bar just freezes.

Re: WD External Hard Drive - Can't Transfer Big Files
How is it connected? USB? If USB, which ports, front panel or back panel? Any other USB devices in use?

it is in the front, which works with other things, and then there is or 1 or 2 other devices using usb in the back, and i've tried plugging it into the back and no luck.

Re: WD External Hard Drive - Can't Transfer Big Files
I'm not familiar with that external drive. Is it self powered? If not, it could be a USB port power issue. If it is, it could be a driver or device conflict issue. Has anything changed recently or around the time the problem started? Were you using Win 7 the whole time?
You could try using the WD disk tools to test the drive. You may also want to check the Windows System Event Viewer to see if it is logging any errors.
