My 30gb HD in my dell inspiron laptop is down to 6GB but I only have about 2 GB worth of programs installed and I put all my pictures on an external HD. I also ran a virus scan and came up clean. Any ideas what could be eating up my hard drive? I'd appreciate your help. thanks.

Hello and welcome to TSF.
First, if you are running WinXP, go into disk management and see how much of the 30GB drive is actually partitioned. (You may have a 30GB drive but only 8 GB is partitioned and formatted. If the entire 30GB is formatted, get a program like TreeSize and check what files are taking up space. http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/index.shtml Quick note. If this is an older laptop and a larger HD was installed. The laptop BIOS may only see 8GB of the 30GB drive. If this was the case you may need to upgrade the BIOS. |
