Issue with Explorer or Seagate Drive

Hi

I have a Seagate 320gb drive, its worked fine for ages.
All of a sudden it started saying 0bytes out of 2gb.00 free
Therefore I can no longer save stuff to it

Whats interesting is it is only windows explorer saying this
Defraggers / Seagates Software / Right clicking on My computer - - - > Management

All correctly Identify the space as 57gb free of the 300 odd gb
If i click properties from the manage my computer it correctly shows space
If i click properties on the drive after just going into my computer normally it only shows 2 gb

So I can no longer save or do anything with the drive, but the drive itself seems fine

Any ideas on solutions?

Thank for for any help
James

Empty your recycling bin. Ive noticed that sometimes if you delete stuff it doesnt always get transfered over to your Root drive.

Re: Issue with Explorer or Seagate Drive

Try running a Start > Run > "cmd" > "chkdsk /r DRIVELETTER:". Hopefully that will fix your free space reporting, but make sure you use the "/r" switch. It might take a few hours but I think Step 5 should take care of that.

Re: Issue with Explorer or Seagate Drive

Ive been a way for a while. I will just try that now and edit this post to show results. Out of curiosity what does the /r add to the chkdsk command?

Re: Issue with Explorer or Seagate Drive

Do a "chkdsk /?" and it'll show you all the switches (options).
You can do that with almost any command.
