Native IDE -> SATA

Hey quick question, if i install XP on my SATA hdd while its in Native IDE mode (set in the bios), is there any way to change it to SATA without repairing or reformatting?
Is it worth it? as far as i can tell performance difference isnt huge.

There should be an performance difference.

It will be minor if at all, the hardware transfer is the same, the comman set is different.
