[SOLVED] hard drive dead?
Hi there, having trouble searching this site. I just signed up as a newbie member - so please go easy on me! I have just came to Canada from Australia & transported my PC over here. I just installed a new PSU as it didn't start up. Now it powers up - but nothing from the hard drive. Monitor says 'No Signal'. I appear to have all the connections in place (SATA data & power). No noise or anything coming from hard drive. I wonder if it's died? What process of elimination can I do to see if it's the hard drive? Or could it be something else? Thanks. AussieChick

Re: hard drive dead?
check it your psu has auto or manual power settings
australia is 240v canada i think is 115v if your psu has a red slider switch on the back you need to set it on 115v

Re: hard drive dead?
Hi, thanks for your suggestions. My new PSU is set to 115V switch (by default). I have switched my monitor to the pc I am on now & it's fine. I checked the connections & rechecked - but all seems ok. I suspect something has happened in transit - but I don't know what.

Re: hard drive dead?
Open th case and make sure memory and video card are seated to the motherboard. Video is checked first in post followed by memory, Also maight not hurt to make sure the CPU is seated in it's socket... that's a long trip :)

Re: hard drive dead?
Hi there, thanks for all your help. I opened the case & pretty much doubled checked all connections etc. Still nothing. Took it to a pc repair place - diagnosed with a damaged motherboard! Arrgg! Motherboard to be replaced & hope the rest is ok. :)
