Sony Vaio VNG-NR240E - HD Problems installing xp
OK I have tried everything to install xp or vista on my sony vaio neither will install right now XP will give me all kinds of missing file errors when i install, but i replace the files and nothing still missing or corrupt.
when i go for vista install it will quit and say required files cannot be installed. somepeople i read said it could be the cd so i tried with flash drive 8gb 2.0 and still no luck i got xp to install on one cd i had burned but it just wont startup right. i think it has somethign to do with bios or with my motherboard somehow specs below: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...?mdl=VGNNR240E Original - Intel® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver NON RAID i have also burned xp cds sp1 sp2 all of them slipstreamed with the above driver. another problem i ran into was i had to use a certain extractor (uniextract) to extract the drivers from the files on the sony site most extracted fine had a problem with one but i tried to dl all the drivers from intel themself still no luck any suggestions or anything would be apreciated ive been at this for months just started messing with it again |

Re: Sony Vaio VNG-NR240E - HD Problems installing xp
First thing is to download the hard drive manufacturer's bootable diagnostic cd and make sure the drive is physically stable. A bad HD will cause these symptoms.

Re: Sony Vaio VNG-NR240E - HD Problems installing xp
Yeah i have burned UBCD (ultimate boot CD) and ran a bunch of tests i dont think that is the problem. this started when i wanted to install xp formatted then found out i needed sata drivers so then slipstreamed them and it never installed right
also bios shows HD as optical, dvd-r as optical drive, and shows floppy drive and looks like all those are active has a (*) next to the 3 which means they start but i have no floppy not sure if that would matternever seen that kind of stuff show up as optical. What is the make and model number of the HD, also try setting the SATA port to IDE ( could also be compatibility or legacy mode depending on BIOS ) mode and see if it is identified correctly and lets you install.

Re: Sony Vaio VNG-NR240E - HD Problems installing xp
windows xp sp3 looked to install fine via cd with slipstreamed drivers. however now i get biosinfo.inf missing or corrupt im going to look around for an older service pack file and replace it see if that works.
