External HDD freezes halfway through transfer then fails.
I recently purchased a Comstar Platinum 1tb HDD that no longer works. When I try to transfer a large file or folder with lots of files it will transfer really slowly and then get stuck on a single file halfway through then eventually fail. Then I will get an error notification on my task bar.
I'm not sure why it is doing this (it worked the first few days) but it may have something to do when I tried formatting it and making it bootable so I could attempt to install Windows 7 on it which I later found out isn't possible on a USB device. Is there a way that I can fix this? I think one of the errors said something about the path being "too deep". |

Re: External HDD freezes halfway through transfer then fails.
I'd start by formatting the HDD again.
Path too deep, would seem to indicate you using multiple embedded folders and/or long file names causing you to exceed the FAT limit. That's just a guess, the exact error would be more helpful.
