Toshiba A45 - Recovery Problem

Toshiba A45-S250 with XP Home Edition

Turned computer on and ended up with
C0000218 Registry File Failure
\systemroot\system32\config\software

tried to start on Safe Mode, etc. nothing worked, so tried to use Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD Satellite A45 Series; at 32% complete, got error message
output a:\ghost.err (I have no "A" drive)--then got error message
Abort 29005 Write sector failure
result=1, drive 128, sectors 6291519 to 6291583

Have tried Toshiba's and Symantec's support--can't find much on A-45 or on the Toshiba/Symantec Restore Tool 7.5.1

Have tried other support forums and get a lot of varied opinions.

Ready to take a hammer to it!! or I could try to get another copy of the recovery disk!! or I could replace the Hard Drive!! or ???

Suggestions?

The "write sector failure" would seem to indicate the write issues to the HDD. Try downloading the disk tools from the HDD manufacturers website and test the drive to see if it is failing.
