My Harddrive disconnects itself

I have a Toshiba 750GB external harddrive. I have a little problem with it. Sometimes while copying files from drive to my computer it disconnects itself and an error message pop up which says usb device cannot be found. It only does that for certain types of files, only exes and isos. What should I do?

Operating system: P4 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, external harddrive uses NTFS and it has an external power supply

Re: My Harddrive disconnects itself

OK, I just tried my harddrive with another computer and it works fine. Obviously the problem is my computer but what is exactly wrong with it??

Re: My Harddrive disconnects itself

Is this disk externally powered, or is it powered from teh USB bus ( a 750 I would assume would be external, but just to be sure.. ) Try disconnecting any other USB devices and see if the disk works properly.

Re: My Harddrive disconnects itself

Externally powered. And again, as I said before, it works on another computer, and I don't have any other USB devices connected at the same time. It is the only device that is working on that 4 hub USB.

Re: My Harddrive disconnects itself

Not sure, is this on a hub, or direct to a USB port?

Re: My Harddrive disconnects itself

I solved my problem, and changed the USB PCI slot. Obviously there is a problem with the slot because now my sound card is not working properly. I have to leave the slot empty. Thanks anyway.
