Question Hard Drive Dead?

I'm having a problem with my 500gb SeaGate SATA hard drive. It seemed to be fine the night before, but the next day my computer just can't see it.

I've tried juggling SATA cables around and trying different ports, but changes nothing.

When the computer is started, you can feel the hard drive spinning but once it comes time to boot I just get the message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key".

Re: Hard Drive Dead?

Is it a 7200.11 drive? Sounds like the firmware bug failure. Go to seagates support site and use the serial number checker to see if there is a firmware upgrade available. The bad news is in the current state you won't be able to apply the patch - the drive has already failed. You can send it back to Seagate and they will fix the drive, apply the patch and return it with data intact.
