OK.
I just finished putting together my new system and every time I turn it on I get something along the lines of "unsuccessful POST ...... No hard disk detected!". Then I get the option to either a) go into bios or b) restart using the same bios config. I have tried using different sata ports. I have tried changing bios settings and reset them when none of the changes helped. I have the dvd drive set to load 1st but never get the option to 'boot from cd' so I can not do a clean install (and Ive tried changig the boot order around too). The thing that I really just don't get is that in bios in both the boot order and the hard disk settings (or whatever) the HD shows up. It is there, clearly labled as WD blah blah 640gb in sata port #. It just that I don't know what to try next. I have not been able to find anything that will help me out. So anything people have would be very appreciated. Im working with a intel dx58so mother board Western Digital 640gb, model WD6401AALS |

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Do you have raid turned off in the bios, because if you don't it will search and not find?
Have you set the bios for the Sata to operate in IDE mode? If not, set it that way? Have you enabled Sata options in the bios?

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Set it to IDE and leave it that way.
Be sure you DISABLE the raid option in your bios so it doesn't search for what is not there.

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Ok in bios I have the 1 " configure SATA as (IDE)" so I'm assuming thats what you mean when you say disable raid because there is no option other than that to turn raid "off". no difference when set to IDE.

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Mike, look in the bios and see if you can find a Marvel controller. If it is there, disable it and see if that helps.

I went through and looked everywhere and couldnt find anything about a marvel controller. Any idea as to which tab it is under? But I also noticed since you asked that for like less than a second while its turning on something about a "marvell adapter (numbers I couldnt get) bios something" flashed on the screen. Don't know if thats it and Im just missing it in bios. :(
Edit--- Yeah I just looked again and found that the marvell controller stuff is on the same page as the no hard disk detected error that flashes, but I still couldnt find anything about it in bios. Last edited by mike6493; 08-26-2009 at 09:07 PM. |

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
The following is taken from your motherboard manual (available here, page 69: http://download.intel.com/support/mo...4316701_en.pdf).

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Ok no luck with that shiz, under Advanced Peripheral Configuration, I only have the options to mess with - Enhanced Consumer IR, Audio, On-board LAN, eSATA Port, eSATA Port Mode, Onboard 1394. Nothing about SATA controllers. Maybe I need to update my bios?

Re: No Hard Disk Detected
Yes, try a BIOS update. I don't understand how that isn't listed...It came straight from your motherboard manual.
