Hello, i have been using a home built computer for almost a year now. After i got off it today i left it unattended, during which time it went into sleep mode. I came back into the room later to find it had come out of sleep by itself and rebooted. when i turned the screen back on i saw a completely black screen that said "Reboot and select proper boot device." i rebooted several times to get the same screen after my ASUS mb screen went through. I put my windows Vista disk in and when i tried to repair it said it could not detect any kind of hard drive. I went into the BIO's to check everything out. I found that my HDD wasnt even being detected in the SATA port it was connected to. I switched ports around and still the same thing. I went into my PC and made sure everything was connected. I even re-connected everything. Same black error screen. I'm having a hard time believing that the Hard drive died after less than a years worth of usage. Could anyone help me dig a little deeper into this?

Re: Hard Drive not detected on BIO's
Model number? Might not be the 7200.11 The 7200.11 drives have a firmware bug that one day just turns the drive into a brick. Seagate released a patch to fix the issue, the problem is once the disk bricks, the patch cannot be applied until the drive is forced out of BSY state. Seagate is fixing the problem and patching the drive, returning it with data intact if the issue is caused by the bug. Seagate support has an online serial checker where you can enter the drive serial number ot seee if it is affected by the bug. If so, then contact Seagate support about getting it fixed.

Re: Hard Drive not detected on BIO's
yeah i looked it up it isnt a part of that line. hmmmmm...
ST3500641AS-RK http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD Yeah i was reading up on it when you first mentioned it. I'm not really sure what to make of it. The disk spins still, the wiring is all correct, and still its not showing in the BIOs. I was using the computer and it was working fine less than an hour before this problem started. Re: Hard Drive not detected on BIO's
Is the drive identified at all in BIOS? Any clicking noises from the drive or other unusual noises? The 7200.9 are usually pretty reliable, tho I've done head swaps on a couple due to head damage.

Re: Hard Drive not detected on BIO's
Check the serial number on seagate's site, if the mode is affected by the firmware bug, contact Seagate, they are fixing and returning drives with data intact.
